Paolo Yuen presents an awesome EA-6B Prowler he built using the Kinetic and Revell kits. Τhis is a good combination and along with a good painting work can make the model a winner!!! (Comments by Thanos Mentzelopoulos) 1/48 Kinetic/Revell EA-6B Prowler by Paolo Yuen
The Northrop Grumman (formerly Grumman) EA-6B Prowler is a twin-engine, mid-wing electronic warfare aircraft modified from the basic A-6 IntruderU.S. Armed Forces from 1971 through the present, during which it has carried out numerous missions for jamming enemy radar systems, and in gathering radio intelligence on those and other enemy air defense systems. In addition, the EA-6B is capable of carrying and firing anti-radiation missiles (ARM), such as the HARM missile. The aircrew of the EA-6B consists of one pilot and three Electronic Countermeasures Officers, though it is not uncommon for only 2 ECMOs to be used on missions.
From the 1998 retirement of the United States Air Force EF-111 Raven electronic warfare aircraft, the EA-6B was the only dedicated electronic warfare plane available for missions by the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Marine Corps, and the U.S. Air Force until the fielding of the Navy's EA-18G Growler in 2009. It was the Kinetic made EA-6B models with Revell EA-6A opened wings. The models was straight build from box did not added resin cockpit or photo etch. The bottom fuselage had many heavy putty work but fitting was good, I wanted build opened wings but kinetic design was fold wings, it was not easy to make it opened well, and the parts was very thick, then I desire to change, model shop did not have Revell’s EA-6B only can choose the EA-6A, I cut out the detailed from Kinetic and placed on the EA-6A, to crave all of the panel lines, and extended little bit on the upper wings parts to fit on the EA-6B body! The nozzle can’t fitting well after the wings operation have to fill lot of gaps! It had a thin enough wings and good look, I give it a heavy weathering painting by airbrush and replaced the Two Bobs decal..
I hope you like it!!! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Text and Photos by Paolo Yuen
